Morecambe manager Sammy McIlroy has revealed he wants to sign Torquay defender Kieran Charnock permanently.

Charnock, who is on-loan from the Gulls, scored in the Shrimps 1-0 victory over league leaders Port Vale on Saturday and McIlroy is determined to make him his first signing of 2011. "Kieran was absolutely outstanding on Saturday and he is a player I really do want to bring to the club in January," he told the Morecambe Visitor. "I have been an admirer of his for a long time, since his days at Northwich, and have tried to bring him to the club a couple of times before. "I am glad he is here now and although he has only had two games for us he has already shown what he can do."
