Bulls land director Gary Peters

Hereford have named Gary Peters - who made his name as a defender between 1975 and 1990 - as the club's new director of football.

Peters played for Reading, Fulham, Wimbledon and Aldershot before moving into management with Preston, Exeter and finally Shrewsbury, whom he left in 2008 - enjoying a total of 10 promotions as player, manager and coach. The 57-year-old has been mentoring young Premier League players over recent years but will now oversee all things football at Edgar Street having penned a deal until the summer of 2014. Peters, who will work alongside manager Jamie Pitman, told the club's official website: "This is an exciting new challenge for me. Hereford is a great little club with a great past and to be given the chance to shape its future is something very special. "One of my main tasks here is to help Jamie. I'll only be successful if Jamie and his team are successful but we've got a tough task ahead which is going to need lots of work and lots of support from the fans." Pitman, whose Bulls side are second-bottom of League Two, added: "Gary has years and years of experience. He's been there and done it and knows the game inside out. He's just what we want. His knowledge and contacts in the game can only bring good to Hereford and I'm really looking forward to working with him."
