Northampton are waiting on the fitness of Derek Niven after scans revealed the on-loan midfielder has suffered a shin injury.
Niven, who joined the Cobblers from Chesterfield 11 days ago, was forced off during the 4-3 defeat at Gillingham at the weekend. The club initially thought the problem was with Niven's ankle. However, scan results have revealed damage to the 27-year-old's shin. "We are letting Derek's injury settle down," said Northampton manager Gary Johnson. "His ankle is fine, but he has suffered an injury to the lower part of his shin. "We will take a look at his fitness later this week but no decision has been made on him at this stage."
