Cardoza pondering boss options

Northampton chairman David Cardoza is looking at around a dozen potential candidates for the vacant managerial position.

Gary Johnson left the club 10 days ago after just eight months in charge and David Lee was placed in caretaker charge for the home game against Shrewsbury, but he has also since left the club following a 7-2 mauling under his control last weekend. Goalkeeping coach Tim Flowers was handed the reins on a temporary basis on Tuesday and is set to fill the void until a permanent successor to Johnson is found. After the trip to Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, when Flowers will be in charge, Northampton are not in action again until the visit of Crewe on December 10 as they are out of the FA Cup. Therefore, Cardoza will take his time in appointing a new boss. "Yesterday (Wednesday) was one of the quieter days but I'm busy today and tomorrow and we're looking at having a shortlist of about 10 or 12 names," Cardoza said. "We'll have a fairly good idea of where we're going to be around the middle of next week. "At that stage we will know who we want to see again and we'll have interviewed everyone we want to, some of them twice. But we've got a game on Saturday and it's quite an important game so we've got to keep everybody focused on that first and foremost."
