Ling glad with Nicholson strike

Torquay boss Martin Ling hailed defender Kevin Nicholson after his stunning late strike gave the Gulls a 1-0 win over Barnet.

With the game deep into injury-time Nicholson, who signed a new deal earlier this week, followed up his own long throw-in and fired a left-foot shot into the top corner. Ling said: "It was a worldy strike from Kevin Nicholson and worthy of winning any match. To be fair you thought it was going to be 0-0 and we did not want that. Then Nico has smashed that one into the top corner and it's another three points. "When you win like that you start to think something special is in the air. I changed things around near the end because I felt we needed Ian Morris and Taiwo Atieno on to pose more of an aerial threat and Ian had a header cleared off the line. "We started to look better in the last 20 minutes and put some good passes together and proved to be more of a threat. "When Ian's header was cleared and Rene Howe's shot went wide in stoppage time you started to think that may be it. But Kevin had different ideas and we seem to be scoring some great goals - and long may it continue."
