Macclesfield v Torquay preview

Team news for Saturday's League Two clash between Macclesfield and Torquay at Moss Rose.
Sam Wedgbury is battling to be fit for Macclesfield. The 22-year-old is nursing a stomach complaint and will visit a specialist next week in order to address the problem long-term, but is hopeful of being involved when the Gulls visit Moss Rose. The prognosis is less encouraging for fellow midfielder Lewis Chalmers, who has learned he needs to undergo an operation to cure a hernia problem and faces four weeks on the sidelines. Scott Kay stepped up his work in training this week after a lengthy absence with a thigh injury and is expected to be available to boss Gary Simpson. The game comes too soon for Ben Tomlinson (ankle) and the forward will target next Tuesday's FA Cup third-round replay against Bolton, while Adam Roberts, Scott Draper (both foot) and Greg Daniel (thigh) remain unavailable. Striker Ben Mills is in line to make his Macclesfield debut after joining from Nantwich this week. Meanwhile, Rene Howe will serve the final match of a four-game ban when Torquay travel to Macclesfield. The striker picked up the suspension after receiving his second red card of the season during the 3-1 defeat to Accrington on December 17. Ashley Yeoman and Taiwo Atieno will be hoping to be given the chance to impress in Howe's extended absence. Defender Brian Saah is nearing a return to the first-team squad following a groin injury, as the Gulls go into the match looking to build on a recent run of just one defeat in 11 league games. With winger Billy Bodin having returned to parent club Swindon following the end of his loan spell at Plainmoor, Ian Morris is likely to be handed a recall in midfield.
