Paul Benson's first-half double earned Swindon Town an easy 2-0 victory over Accrington Stanley at the County Ground.
The League Two leaders' victory was a club record ninth successive league win. Alan Connell had a shot cleared off the line by Peter Murphy in the opening seconds, but the Robins did not have to wait long for the lead as Benson rose to nod in Luke Rooney's eighth minute cross from the left wing. Stanley almost hit back against the run of play when Padraig Amond's header from Jamie Devitt's centre rebounded off a post. The hosts were denied by the woodwork as Matt Ritchie's long range curler smacked against the crossbar in the 24th minute. Connell had also had a shot deflected off the bar by the time Benson rifled in his and Swindon's second shortly before the half-hour after Stanley captain Dean Winnard sliced a clearance into the striker's path. Swindon's win would have been more emphatic but for a brilliant last minute double save from debutant Stanley goalkeeper Lee Nicholls to deny Ritchie and substitute Raffaele de Vita.
