Sharps settled in at Shrews

Shrewsbury skipper Ian Sharps hopes to have played his way to a new contract at the end of the season.

The experienced centre-back, 31, has been a reliable rock for Shrews since his arrival from Rotherham in the summer of 2010, making 49 appearances last season while he has so far made another 37 this term. Sharps' latest contribution was crucial as his close-range header proved enough to see off Burton at the weekend and clinch three precious points which moved Shrews up to second in League Two. And with his contract set to expire in the summer, Sharps is keen to pen fresh terms when the club get around to deciding who stays and who goes. "I am loving my time here," Sharps told the Shropshire Star. "My kids are settled here, I've bought a house here and I really like being here. "Hopefully I've played well enough to earn a new contract but we will just have to see what happens and there is a long way to go this season."
