Wilder reflects on sloppy U's

Chris Wilder was left to rue a below-par showing as his Oxford side lost their 100% home record with a 4-2 defeat to Exeter.

A brace from Jamie Cureton and another goal from Scot Bennett put the visitors into a commanding three-nil lead before Jake Forster-Caskey's penalty and Alfie Potter's scrambled effort handed the U's hope. But John O'Flynn made sure of victory for the Grecians before substitute James Constable was sent off nine minutes from time for a second yellow card. Wilder said: "We started the game well and then naivety on the part of Adam (Chapman) in his pass selection put us in trouble and they got out on a three against two for the first goal. But it was a good finish. "With their second goal I don't know how many people in the stand behind that goal thought it wasn't a corner and that the ball hadn't gone over the line. But we should still have defended the corner better. "We didn't show enough energy to get around the back of them and we didn't pick off areas when they were coming forward. The penalty and second goal gave us a lifeline but their fourth goal and the sending-off made it very difficult for us."
