Richardson: Spirits are high

Accrington boss Leam Richardson believes they will soon pick up results if they maintain their current level of performance.

Aldershot's midweek victory over Torquay dropped Stanley into the relegation zone, but Richardson is unconcerned by the League Two table at this stage of the season and points to the effects of a tricky recent fixture list that shows no sign of letting up. Promotion-chasing Cheltenham visiting the Store First Stadium this weekend and Richardson said: "We're in February and we're in the position that we find ourselves in. There's a lot of football to be played and a lot of points to be taken. "The last month's been very positive in performances so hopefully we'll get that little bit of luck as well and start turning them into three points regularly. "We've come across Port Vale, Southend and Exeter all in the same month. Not only have we given a good account of ourselves but we could have taken a lot more points. We've competed well. "The league table at the moment is irrelevant for us, come the April 27 that's when it's important. We'll be taking Cheltenham on as a League Two team at home expecting to win. "The spirit's very high because the lads, myself and the staff believe in what we're doing and the players believe they're good enough." He added: "The results in midweek have no relevance to us in the fact that we can't affect them. We weren't playing against any of the teams, we weren't able to have an affect on the performance or the result of other teams. "It's vitally important that we just look after ourselves. All our focus through the week has been towards Cheltenham on Saturday."
