Redshaw wins League Two award

Morecambe striker Jack Redshaw has won the League Two Player of the Year award at the Northwest Football Awards.

The 22-year-old, the Shrimps' top scorer last season with 18 goals, picked up the prize ahead of Fleetwood's Scott Davies, Rochdale's Jason Kennedy and former Accrington forward Lee Molyneux at a ceremony in Manchester on Monday night. Redshaw was also nominated for the Rising Star Award alongside the likes of Ross Barkley and Thomas Ince, with Liverpool's Jerome Sinclair eventually taking the gong. "It's a great achievement for me and also my family," said the Morecambe striker. "It feels nice to be recognised, especially alongside all those big names, it just shows that people watch lower league games too and it's a great achievement for the football club." Last season represented a breakthrough campaign for Redshaw after he spent time in non-league football following his release from Rochdale, where he failed to make the grade. And Redshaw paid tribute to Shrimps boss Jim Bentley and his assistant Ken McKenna for getting the best out of him at the Globe Arena. He added: "I had a tough time at Rochdale; it didn't really work out for me. "I went to play non-league for a year and then got the chance at Morecambe and I feel like I took the chance. The gaffer and Ken have been great with me and it's a great club to be at."
