Summerfield hails McGurk

Assistant boss Kevin Summerfield praised Adam McGurk for his eighth goal of the season in Burton's hard-fought 1-0 win at Plymouth.
The Irish striker latched onto a through ball from right-back Phil Edwards before lashing the ball in from 12 yards in the 12th minute. Summerfield said: "I thought he took it well. He's a really good footballer, knows where the goal is and that will give him a little bit more confidence." If anything, the goal seemed to spur Plymouth on and central-defender Neal Trotman had a goal-bound header cleared off the line by Robbie Weir, while eight-goal top-scorer Reuben Reid went close on three occasions in the first half. Summerfield admitted: "We were very solid defensively and very hard-working throughout. It epitomises us a little bit this season. "We have struggled to score goals and, to be fair, there aren't many teams in this division who haven't and I think Plymouth have been in the same boat. "But we are very solid defensively, the back four are good, the goalkeeper is good and they have given us the platform to win today." On Burton's third successive 1-0 league win, former Argyle assistant manager Summerfield said: "Going back to the time I was here at Plymouth, I think we had 27 one season and we actually got promotion off the back of 1-0 away wins at places like Halifax and the like. "We didn't play well but we ended up winning and you've got to do that if you are going to go anywhere and be successful." McGurk - who took a knock at the end of the first half - was withdrawn in the second period as a precautionary measure ahead of next Saturday's FA Cup trip to divisional rivals Fleetwood Town.
