Summerfield craves opening goal

Assistant manager Kevin Summerfield had mixed emotions after Burton's 1-1 draw at home to 10-man Dagenham.

After Lawson D'Ath had fired the Daggers in front, teenage full-back Jack Connors was sent off in the 55th minute for his second yellow card of the afternoon - both for fouls on pacy winger Zeli Ismail. Substitute Billy Kee duly stepped off the bench to grab an equaliser for the Brewers before Robbie Weir came closest to all three points when he hit the woodwork in injury time. Summerfield said: "We said before the game how important it was to get the first goal. "It's something we haven't done particularly well for most of the season but we're still eking out results. "You've got to give credit to the opposition because they're a really resilient team, who are a lot tougher than they were last season and they've got a better system. "They've got some character about them and once they got that first goal, which was an unstoppable shot, they had something to hang on to. "Possibly we were allowed back into the game when they went down to 10 men - and it it could be a very important point come the end of the season." Summerfield continued: "You're never happy with one point, but you have to give the opposition praise for the way they played. "The good thing is that we've kept our unbeaten run going and we're still up there not too far off the top three."
