Lowe brace sees off Hartlepool

Keith Lowe was the unlikely hero as York left Hartlepool with a 3-1 victory in a battle of League Two strugglers.

It appeared the home side would ease to victory following a dominant first-half showing, capped when Scott Fenwick marked his first professional start with a goal. However, York flipped the script spectacularly after the interval as centre-back Lowe twice headed beyond Scott Flinders before Jake Hyde finished the job to ensure Pools remained at the foot of the table. Hartlepool grew into the game following a poor start and were rewarded in the 27th minute when Marlon Harewood's turn and pass gifted Fenwick a tap-in. But Paul Murray's men were punished for Harewood and Fenwick subsequently missing gilt-edged chances as Lowe rose highest to nod home Josh Carson's corner in the 53rd minute. He grabbed a second two minutes later, powerfully converting Russ Penn's cross at the back post. Any hopes of a Pools riposte were snuffed out soon after as Hyde curled a pin-point effort into the corner after the ball broke to him just outside the area.
