Chris Wilder's Oxford ran riot on their return to the Carling Cup as they beat Bristol Rovers 6-1 at the Kassam Stadium.
The U's netted four goals in the first half on Tuesday night to put the game out of Rovers' reach and then went into exhibition mode in the second, adding two further goals. The home side went ahead after 18 minutes with Matt Green crossing for the waiting Simon Heslop before Matthew Green made it 2-0 five minutes later after James Constable's pass. A lapse in concentration then allowed the visitors back in, Chris Lines curling home after 24 minutes, only for Constable to net five minutes later after Green had laid on an open goal for him. It became four when Jack Midson snaffled his first of the season after a Heslop shot broke for him and Constable added his second in the 52nd minute, scissor-kicking home after Damian Batt's cross. Heslop wrapped things up in the last minute slamming home off the post from the edge of the area.
