Purcell and Diop on target in surprise win

Darlington defied the doom-mongers with their second away win of the season after beating Shrewsbury 2-0. Tadgh Purcell took their season's tally of away goals into double figures after nine minutes. His header from Josh Gray's centre was parried by David Button but the Irishman scrambled in the rebound. Darlington keeper Shane Redman was not tested until 10 minutes from time when he tipped over a 30-yard drive from Kevin McIntyre. Shrewsbury were woeful - pointless and goalless now in four games - and their humiliation was complete three minutes from the end when Mor Diop and Purcell worked a one-two before Diop side-footed into an empty net. It might have been more but Gary Smith side-footed a simple chance wide.
