Simpson unhappy with display

Gary Simpson was left disappointed by the performance of his Macclesfield side as they drew 1-1 at home to Accrington.
Macc took the lead in the 20th minute when centre-back Shaun Brisley powered forward to head home a Sam Wedgbury corner. But the hosts squandered a succession of attacking opportunities when the final pass really mattered. And they were made to pay the price when Brisley was still suffering from a knock to the head, unmarked Stanley sub Jayden Stockley shooting on the turn into the far corner from 10 yards. Simpson said: "We were a bit disappointing up front and in midfield, I thought we were miles off it and needed to up the tempo. You've got to earn the right to play and work hard and we didn't work hard enough especially in first half. Though we went in 1-0 up, I was not happy with how it had gone. "In the second half we looked like a side who had had a telling off, but at 1-0 up it only takes one to drop to them and that's what happened. But who knows what this point might mean at the end of the season." Regarding Accrington's equaliser, Simpson added: "Shaun said he was okay to go on, but we got Paul Morgan ready on the bench. As it went on it became more apparent that he would need to come off. It's unfortunate but that's life and you've just got to get on with it."
