Rochdale have signed former Nottingham Forest youngster Neill Byrne on an 18-month deal.

The 18-year-old centre back was released by Forest last month and impressed during a trial period at Spotland, getting a goal during Dale's 3-2 reserve defeat to Manchester City. He is available for Monday's League One home match with Preston and is expected to go straight into caretaker manager Chris Beech's squad. Meanwhile, on-loan striker Matthew Barnes-Homer has left Rochdale after parent club Luton terminated his contract. Barnes-Homer is the latest loanee to leave on the back of Steve Eyre's departure as manager, after Ahmad Benali, Pim Balkestein and Roland Bergkamp returned to Manchester City, Brentford and Brighton respectively.
