Carlton Cole scored the game's only goal as West Ham laboured past Dagenham in Tuesday night's friendly.
Capitalising on a long diagonal ball, Cole raced clear and, despite the angle against him, fired home to put the Hammers ahead in the 35th minute. That proved enough as Dagenham failed to level things up in a drab encounter.
