Former Australia batsman Stuart Law has urged India's selectors to move VVS Laxman up the Test batting order. Law, who has played alongside the middle order batsman at Lancashire, rates Laxman as one of the better batsmen in Asia and wants him to come up the order, with Sourav Ganguly dropping down.

Number three

The 39-year-old Queenslander told The Hindu: "This is the right time for VVS Laxman to bat at number three and India should start using Sourav Ganguly at number six in Test matches to obtain better results. "In my view, after Sachin Tendulkar, Laxman is developing into the best batsman from the sub-continent. "Since Ganguly is capable of big hits like Adam Gilchrist, and has to do quite a bit of bowling too, he should be more suited for the number six slot. This will also give Laxman more opportunities to come up with big scores." Batting at six in the first Test against Pakistan, Laxman made an unbeaten 57 on day one. Law is in India to take part in the Indian Cricket league, where he will play for the Chennai Superstars team. The tournament begins on November 30.
