Leeds boss aims to be top by 1st January

Dennis Wise admits he has set his Leeds United players the target of being top of League One by New Year's Day. The Whites started the season with a 15-point deduction, but have lost just two of their opening 19 games in the division. A 4-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday lifted Leeds to within two points of current leaders Swansea City. And Whites boss Wise concedes being top of the pile at the turn of the year was a challenge he had set his players. "It was a target I put to them," said Wise.

Challenge

"Are they capable? We'll see. You have to challenge them and keep them on their toes." Wise also acknowledged he was keeping an open mind about whether to improve his squad during the January transfer window. He said: "I've got some money. It's always nice to bring people in, but it has to be the right people. "If it's right then I'll do it. If it's not then sometimes you don't want to upset the applecart."
