Simpson, on loan from Arsenal, was suspended for Saturday's defeat against Walsall after being sent off against Oldham.
Ahmet Brkovic is still struggling with the hamstring problem which kept him out on Saturday, but Neil Harris made a surprise comeback from a thigh injury and will be checked over again.
