Heckingbottom signs 18-month contract

Paul Heckingbottom has joined Bradford City on a permanent basis from Barnsley following a loan spell at Valley Parade. The defender spent the first half of the season with the League Two club and has now signed an 18-month contract. He has accepted a pay cut to link up with Bradford, much to the delight of Bantams manager Stuart McCall. "In this day and age, I thought he was refreshingly honest in the fact that next season he is going to be earning almost half of what he's on at the moment," McCall told the Telegraph & Argus.

Backing himself

"He wanted 18 months and with the budget we've got it would have been difficult for him to stay on the same amount. "A lot of the money from the contract will be tied in to when he plays, but he is happy about that. He is backing himself to play regularly and that's the attitude I want to see. "I know he had offers from other clubs to take him from now until the end of the season and ones who are doing well in this division." Meanwhile, McCall has also handed winger Alex Rhodes a contract for the remainder of the season.
