Howe produced a superb finish from Stewart Drummond's long ball after four minutes to give his side a confidence-boosting win against the League Two promotion favourites.
The Shrimps came close to extending their lead but were denied on two occasions by Luke Daniels who saved neatly at the feet of Matty Blinkhorn and superbly from Garry Hunter.
