Three out of three for Gillingham

Charlie Daniels smashed a last minute wonder goal to cap a comfortable 3-0 win for Gillingham over Grimsby. The on-loan Tottenham youngster's 30-yard free-kick found the top corner of Phil Barnes' net after Simeon Jackson and Mark McCammon had set the Gills on their way to a third successive win. But it was the visitors who had the first opening midway through the first half when Peter Till and Tom Newey tested Simon Royce from distance. The Gills took the lead in the 34th minute when John Nutter's corner was flicked on by Dennis Oli and Jackson poked it home from six yards. The visitors could have been level soon after the break but substitute Danny North's speculative 35-yard shot crashed back off the underside of the bar. However Mark Stimon's side doubled their lead with 20 minutes remaining when substitute McCammon placed a right-foot shot from 14 yards inside the post after Barnes had smartly saved his first effort. And there was still time for Daniels to put the icing on the cake with his stunning free-kick in the final minute.
