County end run of six straight draws

Notts County notched up their first win of the season after an injury-time header from Richard Butcher saw off Aldershot 2-1. The Magpies' top scorer last season headed home a looping effort after Sean Canham's delivery back into the box. It ended an emotional week for County on a positive note after legendary manager Jimmy Sirrel passed away at the age of 86. After going behind just after the interval, Anthony Charles with a full-stretch diving-header, County were back on level terms within five minutes as veteran centre-back Michael Johnson glanced in a header to convert Matt Hamshaw's corner and claim his second in as many games. But it was the visitors who looked the more likely winners as Louis Soares almost saw his deflected shot squirm over the line and his cross late on was then put over by substitute Rob Elvins. The Shots could have taken a second minute lead but John Grant fired over, before Butcher did the same a minute later at the other end with a header.
