Northampton extend good run

Karl Hawley grabbed the only goal of the game as Northampton recorded a 1-0 win against Hartlepool. The on-loan Preston striker scored the all-important goal early in the first half as Northampton made it back-to-back wins. Hartlepool produced some neat football but lacked quality in the final third and Northampton always looked the more likely to score. Luke Guttridge went close with an overhead kick before setting up Hawley after 17 minutes with the striker turning his marker to finish well from close range. Kevin Kyle should have equalised after 23 minutes but he shot wide of the near post from James Brown's low cross. But Adebayo Akinfenwa should have increased Northampton's lead four minutes later when he raced onto Danny Jackman's pass but failed to beat keeper Arran Lee-Barrett. Hartlepool threatened more in the second half with Joel Porter always looking a threat but they failed to make the most of their opening. Andy Monkhouse missed their best chance while Kyle also squandered a good opening late on.
