Solitary Brown strike settles the contest

Midfielder Nat Brown bagged his third goal in four games as Macclesfield ground out a 1-0 win over resurgent Grimsby. Even though Francis Green clipped the crossbar in the fifth minute for Macclesfield, it was Grimsby who dominated the first half. Striker Adam Proudlock fired a low left-foot drive against the foot of the post in the 10th minute before Tom Newey picked out Jamie Clarke only for the youngster's header to be ruled out for offside. Newey then tested Macclesfield goalkeeper Jon Brain with a 30-yard drive. However, after the break Macclesfield grew in confidence with Grimsby goalkeeper Phil Barnes making a full-length save to deny Green. Brown sealed the win in the 68th minute with a powerful drive that was still rising as it crashed into the far corner.
