Goalkeeper keeps Darlington at bay
Chesterfield were thankful to goalkeeper Tommy Lee after he produced a string of fine saves to earn a goalless draw against Darlington.
The home side welcomed back striker Pawel Abbott after a lengthy injury absence but endured a frustrating afternoon as they were denied by the in-form Spireites shot-stopper.
Darlington had a let-off in the 26th minute when a low cross from Chesterfield midfielder Scott Boden was turned onto his own crossbar by captain Steve Foster, before Simon Brown put the rebound around a post.
Chesterfield threatened again in the 43rd minute when Brown parried a shot from Jamie Winter and then a follow-up effort from Jamie Lowry was blocked inside the area by Neil Austin.
The Quakers improved after the break and went close to scoring in the 64th minute when defender Alan White volleyed a Rob Purdie corner inches wide of a post with Lee well beaten.
With 17 minutes remaining, Lee produced a fine save to keep out substitute Billy Clarke's low drive as the hosts were frustrated.
