The A1GP series suffered a blow with the news that the fifth round in Indonesia has had to be cancelled.

Safety concerns force cancellation

The A1GP series suffered a blow with the news that the fifth round in Indonesia from February 6-8 has had to be cancelled. The street circuit at Lippo Village near Jakarta failed to meet construction deadlines. Organisers of the event have been unable to comply with requisite deadlines laid down by the FIA, meaning world motorsport's governing body have been unable to issue a circuit licence. A1GP chief executive Pete da Silva said: "Obviously it is extremely disappointing for all concerned and not the news any of us wanted. "The bottom line is, for safety reasons, A1GP cannot race on a circuit that does not meet or has not received the necessary licence from the FIA, so we have no other option but to cancel all plans to bring the A1GP show to Indonesia in three weeks." The series resumes following its winter break with the fourth round of the season in Taupo, New Zealand, on January 23-25. The next round after that will now be at Gauteng, South Africa, on February 20-22. A statement issued by A1GP confirmed the Indonesian round will not be rescheduled for this season, but could return next year.

Mexico rescheduled

Meanwhile, round seven of the 2008/09 season, to be held at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, has been moved back a week to March 20-22. The change, which is currently subject to FIA approval, is necessary in order to avoid a clash with a rock concert featuring the band Radiohead held at the circuit.
