Gannon quiet over bust-up

Port Vale boss Jim Gannon refused to be drawn on a reported bust-up with Geoff Horsfield after a 2-1 win at Aldershot.

The Vale team coach was heading to Aldershot on Friday when trouble flared between Gannon and Horsfield in a row that led to Gannon being dropped off at a service station in the West Midlands. He was later picked up by car and driven back to Vale Park for talks with chairman Bill Bratt and, in another bizarre twist, Horsfield was later dropped off at another service station further south and was also believed to be heading back to the Potteries. Horsfield was not involved in Saturday's match at Aldershot as Gannon presided over the 2-1 victory and revealed afterwards that the matter will be taken up on Monday. He said: "The club have made a statement about the events of the last day. It is an internal matter, subject to a disciplinary hearing, so I think the most professional thing to do is to leave it in the hands of the club. "The club are looking to sort it out on Monday. Geoff (Horsfield, Port Vale assistant) was not here at the game, and that was also the club's decision." In the match itself, Marc Richards notched his 15th of the season as the Valiants ended a nightmare week on a high with three points. John McCombe had opened the scoring before Richards' winning strike, with Peter Vincenti notching a consolation goal for the Shots. Gannon added: "It would have been a travesty if we hadn't come away with the win. The lads played really well. If you look at the stats for the game we dominated it. We had 65% of the possession, 10 shots on target and lots of other good chances. "Of course there were tough periods in the game, and I think the little downpour of rain throughout contributed to that.
