Bury brushed aside managerless Carlisle 3-0 to leave manager David Flitcroft purring at an impressive performance.
Danny Rose grabbed his fifth goal of the season when he out-jumped goalkeeper Mark Gillespie to nod home, Craig Jones added the second after a neat move involving Nicky Adams and Lowe and Lowe cut in from the left to lash home Shakers' third. "It could have been five or six," admitted Flitcroft. "With the intent we attacked them with we looked like scoring from a number of opportunities and we were a threat going forward. "We limited Carlisle to very few chances which pleased me. There was a real shape to the team. It was a quality performance of high speed, high tempo and precision. I would not have been embarrassed if it was been five or six. In the second half we had too much running power for them. "Our bench looked really strong and I was able to put three strikers on and take the game to Carlisle." Flitcroft said that midfield man Craig Jones could have had a hat-trick if he had been on target with a couple of first half chances to add to his second half strike. It was a brave performance," he said. "He says that he just closed his eyes and smashed it for his goal. Bury's goal of the game came from substitute Ryan Lowe and Flitcroft said:"He made that goal for himself. He had only one thing in his mind and that was to hit the back of the net and I'm delighted for him, but it was a real team performance. "It's not the finished article. It's early days in the plan. We want to be competitive and improve our quality in all aspects of our play and get consistent results. We know where we want to be and if we are in the top three it's a reward for a lot of hard work." Carlisle's joint caretaker boss Paul Thirlwell confessed their performance was not good enough. "No excuses,"he said. "They passed the ball better than us in the second half and we were just not good enough. They deserved their win. "Mark Gillespie holds his hands up for the first goal, but I thought the referee made a poor decision to rule out Kyle Dempsey's goal for us. "We were in League One last season and if we want to get back there we have got to improve on that performance. The new manager will have to address where we are." Thirlwell's joint caretaker boss Tony Caig added: Every team needs a figurehead, but when the players go out on the grass they are the ones who control things. "After a pretty even first half we were second best once they got their goal. We stepped off a yard and that is something the players have got to look at."
