Scunthorpe United's on-loan striker Tom Hopper has returned to parent club Leicester City.

Hopper, 21, will have surgery on a broken toe sustained in Scunthorpe's 4-1 win at Leyton Orient in January and will miss the rest of the season. "Unfortunately, he's not been able to overcome this injury," Iron boss Mark Robins told Scunthorpe's official website. "We gave him a rest and shut him down for three weeks in the hope that there would be a union in the bone and there hasn't been. We tried him (on Wednesday) and it is still no good. "It's disappointing because he's tried and he wanted to carry on and unfortunately that's not the case. We've lost him and it's a blow for us. "I'd like to thank him for what he's done while he's been with us. It's really unfortunate for him because he was someone who came in and led the line really well. He's also contributed some goals as well." Hopper scored four goals in 12 appearances for Scunthorpe after joining them in early January.
