Roscommon GAA announce Anthony Cunningham as new football manager

Roscommon GAA have confirmed that Anthony Cunningham succeeds Kevin McStay as manager of their senior footballers.
The Rossies crashed out of the Super 8s in disappointing fashion in 2018, losing their three games to Tyrone, Donegal and Dublin by a combined 39 points.
Nonetheless, McStay's tenure will be viewed as a successful one, given the Connacht title in 2017.
Following a tumultuous process to find a successor, which included an 11th-hour withdrawal from Aidan O'Rourke, the Rossies finally have their man.
Cunningham has a wealth of experience in Gaelic football, having led Garrycastle to the All-Ireland club title in 2012, after previously managing St Brigid's to county titles in Roscommon.
While he switched his focus to hurling in the aftermath of Garrycastle's success, leading Galway to two All-Ireland finals within a four-year period before being removed by the players, he kept in touch with the big ball in recent seasons as he joined the Laois backroom team in 2016.
He spent the last year under Pat Gilroy with the Dublin senior hurlers, and was believed to be in the running for the main job following Gilroy's departure - a post which was ultimately filled by Mattie Kenny.
