Gaelic football wrap: Monaghan move towards Division 1 safety with Cavan win
Sunday 17 March 2019 06:05, UK
There were wins for Monaghan and Galway in Division 1, as the promotion and relegation pictures became clearer in the lower divisions following Saturday's results.
Monaghan 0-14 Cavan 1-8, Division 1
Cavan are all but relegated from Division 1, after a three-point loss in Clones. The Farney County were comfortable winners, keeping their Ulster rivals at bay throughout the tie.
Cian Mackey kicked a goal for the first score of the game for Mickey Graham's charges, but that's as good as it got for the visitors as Monaghan arrested a slump of four consecutive losses to step out of the relegation zone.
Conor McManus kicked six points for Malachy O'Rourke's charges, as they now look ahead to their final game away to Mayo.

Kerry 0-11 Mayo 1-10, Division 1
James Horan's side are right in the mix for a league final berth, after a two-point win over Kerry in Tralee. Mathew Ruane's second-half goal was enough to inflict a first defeat of the year on Kerry, who remain top of the table.
Sean O'Shea continued his impressive run of form for Kerry, kicking six points but it wasn't enough as they fell to defeat in Austin Stack Park.
Kerry may not have to wait long for a shot at redemption, as both sides are in with a real shout of reaching the decider in two weeks' time.
Galway 1-17 Roscommon 1-10, Division 1
Galway breathed fire into their bid for a place in the Division 1 final, with a seven-point victory over Connacht rivals Roscommon at Pearse Stadium.
A Danny Cummins goal before the break set the Tribesmen on their way, and they kicked on in the second half to run out convincing winners, despite a penalty from Conor Cox.
Roscommon drop into the relegation spots after being leapfrogged by Monaghan, and must get a result at home to Kerry next week to avoid going straight back down to the second tier.
Division 2
Donegal overturned a half-time deficit to win by seven away to Cork, 1-19 to 1-12 as they moved into the promotion positions. Meanwhile, Kildare edged Tipperary 1-11 to 2-7, and Armagh inflicted Fermanagh's first defeat of the campaign, 1-9 to 0-6. Clare versus Meath was postponed until Sunday afternoon.
It looks likely that two of the three Munster teams will be relegated.
Division 3
Down took a major stride towards playing Division 2 football next season as they dug deep for a 0-15 to 1-11 win away to Carlow. Longford beat basement side Sligo 2-15 to 0-14, as Laois overcame Offaly, 2-12 to 0-15.
Division 4
Derry overcame Leitrim at Celtic Park, in a bout of 'shadow-boxing' given that both sides are already safely through to the Division 4 final. Waterford beat London, 2-9 to 0-7 at Ruislip, Wexford overcame Limerick, 0-14 to 1-10 as Antrim ran out 2-15 to 0-10 winners over Wicklow.
