Sunday's Leinster Football Championship action saw Laois edge Westmeath, while Kildare and Longford are headed for a replay.

Longford 3-15 Kildare 1-21 (after extra-time)

Ninety minutes of Gaelic football action couldn't separate Kildare and Longford, and they'll have to do it all over again next Sunday to win a place in the Leinster semi-final against Dublin.

It was Padraic Davis' charges who landed the first significant blow of the contest, with Darragh Doherty finding the net on 20 minutes to give them the lead.

However, the Lilywhites rallied, and an Adam Tyrell goal helped establish a 1-12 to 1-8 lead at the break.

From there, Cian O'Neill's charges kicked on after half-time, and David Hyland fired them into a seven-point lead in the 42nd minute.

Although Kildare were looking likely to see out the result, Longford bounced back. A Mark Hughes goal helped to close the gap, and a late Aidan McElligott point forced extra-time.

After the restart, it looked as if Kildare were getting their noses in front, as Jimmy and David Hyland helped to open a three-point gap. But a Mickey Quinn goal levelled again and the teams were tied at half-time of extra-time.

There was to be no further score in the final 10-minute period, and the teams will head to O'Connor Park for a second time next weekend.

Laois 0-12 Westmeath 0-10

Laois saw off a late Westmeath fightback to secure safe passage through to the Leinster semi-final, where they will face Meath.

For the O'Moore County, it was a case of third time lucky, after two defeats to the Lake County during the Allianz Football League. Westmeath were unable to make it a hat-trick over their provincial rivals as they head for the qualifiers.

Evan O'Carroll was key for Laois as they raced into a 0-8 to 0-2 lead at the break.

While Jack Cooney's side were unable to score from play during the first half, that was quickly rectified after the break as John Heslin kicked off their comeback attempt.

They did work their way back into the tie, with Ger Egan scoring seven points.

Ultimately, John Sugrue's side had too much as last year's Leinster finalists set up a semi-final meeting with Meath.
