Club hurling round-up: Ballyboden deny Kilmacud Crokes in Dublin
Monday 29 October 2018 15:16, UK
Ballyboden, Ballyhale Shamrocks and Na Piarsaigh were among those to pick up county titles in a busy weekend of club hurling action.
Dublin SHC
Ballyboden St Enda's won their seventh Dublin title by seeing off Kilmacud Crokes after a replay, 2-15 to 1-15. Conal Keaney put in a dominant display at wing forward, scoring four points from play while Paul Ryan's second-half rocket into the net from a placed ball proved the difference between the sides.
Anthony Daly's side, who lost Marc Howard and Ryan O'Dwyer to injury, battled throughout but were unable to avoid their third consecutive final loss.
Kilkenny SHC
Henry Shefflin's managerial career is off to the best possible start as he guided Ballyhale Shamrocks to their first county title since 2014. TJ Reid led the line as they withstood a strong second-half fightback from Bennettsbridge.
The 2015 Hurler of the Year bagged 1-10 as Ballyhale now prepare to march on Leinster.
Westmeath SHC
Clonkill edged Raharney 1-13 to 2-09 at TEG Cusack Park to win their 15th title on Saturday. A late goal from Raharney's Niall Flangan was not enough to catch Clonkill, who will face Ballyboden in the Leinster quarter-final.
Limerick SHC
Na Piarsaigh won back-to-back Limerick titles for the first time in their history as they beat Doon on Saturday night at the Gaelic Grounds. Pat Ryan's early goal for the underdogs upset the city side's rhythm, but Na Piarsaigh showed their class to win out 2-22 to 3-10.
Munster club SHC
Ballygunner got over the challenge of Midleton at Walsh Park on Sunday afternoon. The Waterford champions were pushed all the way by the east Cork outfit, but 12 points from Pauric Mahony saw them over the line, 1-18 to 2-13. They will face Ballyea of Clare in the semi-final.
Ulster club SHC
Reigning champions Slaughtneil were shocked by Ballycran of Down in the Ulster semi-final at Corrigan Park. The Derry side, who were aiming to win a third consecutive provincial title, were beaten 4-15 to 1-14.
Antrim SHC
Cushendall won their first Antrim title in three years, beating Loughgiel Shamrocks 2-12 to 0-15. County star Neil McManus led the way, as goals in either half proved crucial in securing a 14th county title.
Galway SHC
Clarinbridge were edged by St Thomas' in the Galway SHC quarter-final after extra-time, 2-19 to 1-23. They will join Liam Mellows, Cappataggle and Sarsfields in the final four.
