Tipperary secured their fourth championship victory over Dublin since 2007 and advanced to the All-Ireland quarter-finals with a double-scores 6-26 to 1-19 Round 2 qualifier win at Semple Stadium in Thurles.

Tipperary were full value for their massive 22-point success and Seamus Callanan scored a hat-trick while John McGrath notched twice and Micheal Breen also found the net.

It had been a treacherous few months for the reigning All-Ireland champions where they were hammered in a league final by Galway before Cork shocked them in Munster.

Despite impressing across all age-groups last year, especially in their All-Ireland final success over Kilkenny, this team had looked a pale shadow of the 2016 panel, with rumours of turmoil in the camp.

They only had nine points to spare in their win over Westmeath last time out and that qualifier could have finished very differently had John 'Bubbles' O'Dwyer and substitute John McGrath not hit two important goals.

But Tipperary were brimming full of confidence, back on their home patch, and gave a very accomplished display here with Callanan and Patrick 'Bonner' Maher back to their best in the blistering heat.

Tipperary held a comfortable 4-11 to 1-10 lead at half-time after two first-half goals each from Callanan and John McGrath.

But Dublin had their chances too and when Cian O'Sullivan scored their goal early on it was 1-4 to 1-4 after 15 minutes.

Tipperary raced into a 0-4 to 0-2 lead before full-forward Callanan found the net to give them some comfort, but Dublin were inspired by Tipperary's poor showing against Westmeath in the last round and clung on.

John McGrath blasted home Tipperary's second goal in the 20th minute before a quick-fire second pushed Micheal Ryan's side 3-5 to 1-5 in charge.

David Treacy continued to tap over the frees for Dublin, and their full-forward, Tipperary native Ryan O'Dwyer was also on target but Tipperary had the extra class up front.

Tipperary full-back Tomas Hamill blocked a goal-bound effort from Eamonn Dillon, and although Treacy scored the resultant free, Tipperary were further in front moments later.

Callanan scored eleven points when Tipperary last played Dublin in the championship in 2014, and he profited from the hard work of Patrick Maher before finishing a fourth Tipperary goal.

That gave the hosts a 4-8 to 1-8 advantage and three points in a row from Jason Forde, John O'Dwyer and Dan McCormack gave Tipperary a massive 12-point lead with just a minute left before half-time.

Two late Treacy frees reduced the arrears to 4-11 to 1-10 at half-time but Tipperary scored 1-7 in a row at the start of the second-half.

Micheal Breen raced through the heart of the Dublin defence to score Tipperary's fifth goal right on the resumption, and Dublin didn't score their first point of the second-half until Treacy hit a free on 46th minute.

But at that stage, Tipperary were 5-18 to 1-11 clear and Callanan added another goal in the dying moments as Tipperary sealed a massive victory.
