"My expectation is always trying to win," Watson told the media on Tuesday. "I'm looking forward to the challenge.

"Hopefully I make some putts like I did at Travelers, and that's the key to anybody's game. If you can make some putts, we can all hit the ball. So it's just making the putts at the right time to keep the momentum going.

"Where I'm at right now, another couple good finishes and we're going to be right up there going into the (FedExCup) play-offs. So I'm looking forward to that, looking forward to the chase."

Players champion Webb Simpson is also in the field at The Old White TPC, with the world No 21 bidding for a return to form after two missed cuts in his past three PGA Tour starts.

"I didn't care where the win came," Simpson said. "It could have come anywhere, any tournament, but to have it at the Players means so much to me.

"It's been a bit of a rocky three-tournament stretch after a missed cut, 10th place at the U.S. Open, missed cut. But I'm not too worried.

"I love this stretch of golf. I'll get into a good rhythm. I'm going to play a lot of golf tournaments between now and Atlanta, and hopefully continue the good play I had going into the Players."
