Amy Boulden has set her sights on a future place in Europe’s Solheim Cup side, but fears she may have left it too late to be considered part of this year’s side.
The 22-year-old missed out on qualifying for this year’s US Women’s Open on Monday, finishing four shots off the pace in tied-16th at Buckinghamshire Golf Club.
The Ladies European Tour Rookie of the Year is now looking ahead to this September’s Solheim Cup, where Carin Koch’s team are targeting a historic third consecutive win.
While Boulden recently finished fourth at the Buick Championship to go alongside three top-five finishes last year, she admits that may still not be enough to make the European squad.
“I think if it was to be picked now I wouldn’t get on it,” Boulden told Sportswomen. “I think I’d have to perform very well and I need a good finish in the British Open realistically to get on that team.
“I think if I had a little bit longer it would be more realistic, but it’s one of my dreams to be part of a Solheim Cup team, as I think it is for most girls.
“Whether it’s this year or in the future, it’s definitely a team I want to be a part of.”
Boulden is part of a growing number of young Brits making huge progress on both the Ladies European Tour and LPGA Tour, with the Welshwoman enjoying her transition from amateur to professional golf.
“I think it’s great for young girls to look at young British girls playing well. I think we’re someone for them to look up to and hopefully inspire the next generation.
“People used to think golf was an old man’s sport, but I think hopefully we’re changing that.”
