Melbourne to host 2019 Presidents Cup

Melbourne has been announced as the host city for the 2019 Presidents Cup.

The biennial tournament, played between a United States team and a selection of non-European international golfers, is currently taking place in South Korea.

New Jersey's Liberty National will host the 2017 edition before the tournament moves to Australia for the third time.

Royal Melbourne has previously hosted two Presidents Cups, although the venue for 2019 has not yet been confirmed.

Jason Day won the individual tournament as well as partnering Adam Scott to victory in the team competition when Royal Melbourne hosted the World Cup in 2013, and the world No 2 has welcomed the news that Australia is to host the Presidents Cup.

"I'm very, very happy that we're returning to Melbourne," Day said. "Whether we play at Royal Melbourne or some other golf course, I just like playing that sort of golf, and being back in front of the home crowd will be fantastic."

PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem said: "The state of Victoria in Australia will serve as the host for the World Cup in 2016 and the Presidents Cup in 2019.

"The venue for both events will be at one of the very many Melbourne premier golf courses in the sandbelt region. And we will be announcing a date in a few weeks.

"Both events will be in the November time frame as we have historically played these events in Australia."
