Luke Donald shot a bogey free round of 65 as he carried the most upward momentum on moving day at the British Masters

Luke Donald said he has played his way into a "great position" ahead of the final round of the British Masters after a flawless six-under-par 65 on Saturday.

Donald began the day six shots adrift of the tournament leaders, before carding six birdies to complete his round as the clubhouse leader.

The former world No 1 admitted he would require a similar score on the final day if he is to stand a chance of winning his first European Tour event in more than three years, and said that it would be "more special" to end the run on home soil.

"I have got myself in a great position and I would love to go out there tomorrow and shoot another round like that, which might be good enough," said Donald.

"It's always nice to play in front of great crowds like this week. I would just like to win any tournament to be honest, but it would be a little more special in the UK.

"It's been a bit of a dry spell for me and I would love to get back in that winners' circle."

Lee Westwood also fired his way into contention with his best score of the week on day three, a four-under-par 67.

"I'm starting to hit the ball a little bit better; striking it a little bit better," said Westwood. "The driving is okay. It's very difficult to hole putts on these greens. They are very soft because of all the rain, and that's really the main defence of the golf course.

"Albeit, it is quite tight in places, as well, the greens are quite undulating and they have been quite hard to play this week. It's been difficult to make putts.

"It's great to be playing the British Masters again. It's not been around for a long time and very good to see it back. It's great to play in front of the crowds in England, and Woburn, as well."
