Martin Kaymer to feature in BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth
Friday 6 May 2016 18:33, UK
Two-time Major champion Martin Kaymer is the latest name to confirm his entry for this month’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
The German will make his tenth consecutive appearance in the tournament from May 26-29, where he has finished inside the top-20 five times but never better than tied-11th.
Kaymer joins a strong line-up for the €5million event, with Masters champion Danny Willett, world No 10 Justin Rose and Ryder Cup hopefuls Andy Sullivan and Matt Fitzpatrick already in the field.
The 31-year-old has dropped out of the world's top 50 having failed to reach the winner's circle since the 2014 US Open, but heads in to a busy stretch buoyed by a tied-sixth place finish at Valderrama last month.
"It's always a special week as it is played at a very famous, iconic venue that has a lot of history," Kaymer said. "After my home country of Germany, the UK is probably my favourite place to play golf, and at Wentworth there are always great crowds creating a fantastic atmosphere.
"I have a decent record at Wentworth but I've not yet been truly in contention to win there, so it would be nice to change that this year.
"My game is feeling good and a victory would be a great way to launch into what is going to be an extremely busy spell through the summer and autumn."
The announcement follows the confirmation on Wednesday that former champion and world No 3 Rory McIlroy wouldn't be taking part in the tournament, blaming a busy schedule.
Graeme McDowell, Luke Donald, Jamie Donaldson, Victor Dubuisson and Lee Westwood are among those all set to feature in the tournament.
