Wu Ashun claimed a second European Tour title with a narrow one-stroke victory from Adrian Otaegui at the Lyoness Open.

The 30-year-old became the first Chinese player to win a European tour event when he claimed the Volvo China Open in April last year and he added a first in Europe with his win on Sunday afternoon.

Heavy overnight rain ensured a softer Diamond Country Club just outside Vienna and the early signs were of a birdie-fest as Wu moved cleared of the joint overnight leader Zander Lombard with three birdies in his first four holes.

Further down the field Adrian Otaegui, Richard McEvoy and James Morrison fired early birdies to make their move up the leaderboard, and their chances of a victory improved when an errant drive from Wu saw him find water off the tee and card a bogey on the fifth.

However he recovered with two more birdies on the front nine to to reach 14 under par and hold a three-shot lead over playing partners Lombard and Otaegui and England's McEvoy.

McEvoy, ranked 668 in the world and outside the top 150 in the Race to Dubai, had carded three birdies in a flawless front nine of 33 to move into contention for a maiden title on the tour.

And when Wu once again found water on the 10th he was to come back to the field, starting his homeward nine with a double bogey and then a bogey on 11 as his three-shot lead evaporated.

McEvoy took full advantage of the tee being brought forward on the 13th, driving the green on the 281-yard par four to set up a two-putt birdie and move into the outright lead.

Wu, Otaegui and Lombard all opted to play safe on the same hole, but Wu pitched to eight feet and holed for birdie to join McEvoy on 12 under, with Lombard converting from twice the distance to reach 11 under.

Wu regained the outright lead with a birdie on the par-five 15th, where his approach almost span back into the hole, but Otaegui birdied the same hole and also the 16th to join the world number 222 on -13.

However, when Otaegui failed to save par on the 17th and McEvoy's search for a crucial fifth birdie of the day proving fruitless as he bogeyed the 18th, Wu was left with a one-shot lead with one hole to play.

Defending champion fired his best round of the week, his Sunday 68 enough to move him into a share of sixth place alongside France's Gary Stal whose shot a superb 66 for the round of the day.

Gregory Bourdy and Joost Luiten also finished on six-under par while home favourite Bernd Wiesberger shot a second successive 69 to record a top ten finish - nine players finishing in a tie for 10th.
