American golfer Patrick Reed found a unique way to blow out the candle on his birthday cake

Patrick Reed whiffed on his tee-shot on the opening hole of the second round of the Travelers Championship but thankfully it didn't cost him.

Reed stepped on to the first tee at River Highlands to see a cupcake placed where he might usually have expected to put his ball, all thanks to him celebrating his 26th birthday.

A perfect left-handed swing saw the candle snuffed out but there was more to come from his playing partner Bubba Watson, who will join Reed in making the trip to the Olympic Games after the tournament in Connecticut.

Serenading Reed with his version of Happy Birthday, Watson got the crowd involved in giving Reed a send-off he will surely never forget.

The Ryder Cup player would go on to shoot a three-under round of 67 to move into the top-25 and in contention for the weekend, only four off the lead.

Watson also stands on three under while the third member of the group, and another Olympian, Matt Kuchar is one shot ahead on four under after a round of 67.
