Jason Day will continue to play in the Deutsche Bank Championship despite revealing his family had been involved in a car accident in Boston.

Day had just signed for a one-under 70 in the opening round at TPC Boston when he was informed that his wife, Ellie had been taken to hospital following the collision.

The couple's two children were also in the car when it was "hit by a bus", but neither Dash or Lucy Day required hospital treatment.

The world No 1 confirmed in a statement that his wife had been released from hospital, and he will not be pulling out of the second of four FedExCup Play-Off events.

Day's statement read: "After the completion of my round today, I was informed my wife Ellie our children Dash and Lucy and friend Katie were involved in a traffic incident near our RV.

"Their car was hit by a bus and Ellie was taken to the hospital for precautionary measures.

Ellie Day hit the headlines in December last year when she was injured in a collision with NBA superstar LeBron James as the Australian couple sat courtside watching the Cavaliers take on Oklahoma.

James tried to stop the ball going out of bounds and crashed head first into Day, who was stretchered out of the area following lengthy medical treatment.

"I am incredibly sore and exhausted," she said the following day. "Being tackled by that large man I would compare to a minor car accident. My head and neck hit pretty hard so it was really scary. My whole body feels like it was hit by a truck."
