Dame Laura Davies ends a difficult round by throwing her putter into the lake

Dame Laura Davies failed to hide her frustration after making an early exit from the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open.

The veteran was nine strokes adrift from first-round leader Olafia Kristinsdottir after a two-over 74 on Wednesday, but bolstered her chances of making the cut with a hat-trick of gains around the turn during the second round.

A blemish at the 12th was cancelled out by a birdie-four at the 15th, only for her game to unravel along the closing stretch.

Davies slipped below the cut mark with back-to-back bogeys at the 16th and 17th, before missing the final green in regulation and leaving a bogey putt short of the cup.

After tapping in for a double-bogey to close a second successive 74, Davies took her frustrations out on her putter and hurled the flat stick in to the neighbouring lake.
