Rickie Fowler got into an awkward spot during the third round in the Bahamas

Rickie Fowler opted for an unusual approach after narrowly avoiding the hazard at the Hero World Challenge.

The world No 12 sits nine strokes off the pace heading in to the final round in the Bahamas, and he got closer to the water than he would have hoped for at the 18th on Saturday.

Playing alongside tournament host Tiger Woods, who is making his return to competitive action after nearly 16 months away, Fowler was five under for the day as he made his way to the par-four last.

Fowler's approach missed the green and trickled down the slope towards the water, only to stop in the sand just short of the hazard.

The position of the ball left Fowler no option but to wade in to the water to play his third shot, which the Ryder Cup star elected to hit with his shoes still on and trousers fully rolled down.

After pitching his ball safely in to play and on the green, a soggy Fowler then missed his par save to close a four-under 68.
