Bryson DeChambeau grabbed a three-way tie for the lead before play was suspended due to the threat of bad weather at the Puerto Rico Open.
DeChambeau fired a bogey-free 65 at Coco Beach to join DA Points and Bill Lunde on 11 under, with Tim Wilkinson part of a five-way tie one-stroke off the pace following a course record-equalling 63.
Andrew "Beef" Johnston surged in to contention and heads in to the weekend four strokes off the pae after a blemish-free 67, with Shawn Stefani part of the group a further shot back.
Graham McDowell looks likely to miss the cut after bogeying his final three holes on Friday to shoot a one-over 73, with Ian Poulter also set for an early exit after matching the Northern Irishman's score
DeChambeau was five strokes off the pace after the opening day but stormed up the leaderboard with a run of four straight gains from the fifth, before birdieing two of his final three holes.
Two late gains saw Points also get to 11 under, with Lunde grabbing a share of the lead with three holes of his second round still to play.
Tim Wilkinson played a seven-hole stretch in seven under to join a six-strong pool of players within one of the lead, while Scott Brown is a further stroke back with one hole of his final round still to play.
