Seong Eun Jeong looked anything but a teenage amateur playing in her first ANA Inspiration as she took the early lead with a historic hole-in-one at the fifth in Rancho Mirage.
Seong, who is the reigning US Women's Amateur champion, had already made a confident start as she birdied the opening two holes on the first day of the opening major of the year, but better was to follow at the 182-yard fifth.
The 17-year-old made perfect connection with a six-iron, and her ball pitched on the front portion of the green before taking the right-to-left break and catching just enough of the hole to drop for an outstanding ace.
It was the first hole-in-one by an amateur in the history of the tournament, and it swept the young South Korean into the outright early lead before she was surpassed by French Solheim Cup star Karine Icher.
Seong added another birdie at the eighth before dropping shots at the 10th and 12th, although she recovered to get one back at the 15th and parred in to return a commendable 68 and earn a share of second place.
